From the Artist:
For me, art is something that brings harmony and balance to everyday life. I feel the necessity to have works of art around me and I am happiest when I am creating something, or just admiring a wonderful piece of artwork.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, I now live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have studied pottery, sculpture, oil painting, and encaustics as I traveled with my husband and lived 15 years in various South American countries. I have always been drawn to a three-dimensional art medium. My father, Tommy Hicks, is a painter and sculptor and is the founder of the Shidoni Foundry and Galleries in Tesuque, New Mexico, north of Santa Fe.
I have turned my attention to steel sculpture in the form of functional art. My welded steel tables reflect simplicity of design and beauty in their rich patina. I love to get into the welding process and esthetically soften up the hard steel. Once the fabrication of a piece is finished, the next part, which is the patina, is just as exciting and the steel softens to resemble rich wood.
Thanks for taking the time to look.
